Day 1
Arrival in Puerto Varas
On this tour, you will travel an iconic road in South America: the Carretera Austral! Built in the 1970s, the Carretera Austral aimed to connect the then-isolated towns of southern Chile to the rest of the country by land. Nestled in the Andes Mountains, this road traverses one of Patagonia’s most beautiful and inhospitable regions. Turquoise blue lakes, turbulent rivers, snowy peaks, and dense green forests form the backdrop for this adventure! We will drive our 4×4 trucks on paved roads and gravel roads (approximately 1,100 km of gravel), through one of the most preserved parts of Chilean Patagonia, passing picturesque towns and dormant volcanoes. An incredible experience on 4 wheels, unique landscapes, excellent gastronomy, and the wildest side of Patagonia are all part of this trip! Tour conducted with 4×4 trucks rented in Chile.
The Carretera Austral invites you to explore the wildest side of Chilean Patagonia aboard 4x4 trucks. Between gravel and asphalt sections, the route crosses turquoise blue lakes, dense forests, and monumental fjords, passing by icons such as Queulat National Park, the Marble Chapels, and the fascinating isolation of Villa O'Higgins.
